BMW coupes are regarded as some of the most striking in design and performance. The turbine smooth in-line 6 cylinder engines beg to be revved. The chassis are incredibly well balanced. The E24 6-series BMW's are especially adept at combining a flowing, sexy design with performance that'll put anything this side of a Ferrari to shame. Where the M5 is a wolf in sheep's clothing, the M6 is the devil in a red dress. What more can you ask?
In 1983, BMW introduced the M635CSi. Who knew that a "minor" engine swap would bring about a legend? The glorious M1 engine, a 4 valve, dual overhead cam engineering masterpiece was modified to fit into the legendary 6-series chassis to produce the classic M635CSi. No other car can combine the sledgehammer performance of 286 horses with the beauty of a sweeping coupe body.
This particular M635CSi that resides at the Anderson abode is one such creature. It has seen painstaking maintenance and care, second to none. It was once owned by Tommy Charles, a famous southern radio DJ and a one-time driver in the 24 hours of Daytona. Now, since November of 1992, the M635CSi has remained in the competent hands of the Anderson family.
The M635CSi has had the timing chain tensioner and valve springs replaced. Also, a euro-spec Dinan chip has raised power output to over 300 bhp. The car also has a free flow cat. and muffler, for increased high-end power. A Dinan exhaust cam gear has also increased the torque. Racing Dynamics Springs with Bilstein Sport shocks, and M5 swaybars take care of the underpinnings. Aluminum lower control and milled 750i upper control arm bushing along with a Racing Dynamics stress bar finish off the suspension. The car has also received a US spec 3.91LSD differential, and Metric Mechanic short shift kit to finish off the driveline. It has received a major stereo upgrade. When the car was imported, Hartge Design A wheels were fitted. These have migrated to the E28 535i. The M635CSi has had a set of Racing Dynamics RGR 17" wheels, and for the short term the car was kept on the original 415 TRX's - perfect tires to store your cherished Bimmer on. Since then the car has recieved a new set of 17" BBS RKs with 245 tires which has improved the feel and handling. Lastly the headlights were retrofitted back to the European specification including aiming and wiper washing system.
The M635CSi is one car that we hope will never be sold or leave the family - it actually will forever remain with the family one way or another. These cars are incredible - words cannot describe the feeling of driving a well-sorted M635CSi. This classic coupe has a style all its own.
